Many of my clients ask me what job boards should they look at and which ones to avoid. The broadest of answer would be to avoid the big boards like Monster and focus on smaller niche boards such as Dice.com for technology.
The problem many employers have with the big boards is that they get too many responses from their postings with very low quality candidates. Employers would rather post on a specialized site for the function they are looking for or the geographical area they are located. This will increase the quality of candidates.
The more focused the employers search the more focused your search needs to be. Still the most successful job search method remains networking. Over 70% of all jobs are filled by referrals, not job boards. This is why we teach networking skills to all of our clients.
